Women’s volleyball team of Azerbaijan, the Lokomotiv Baku, secured the title trophy of 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup on Sunday, April 1. The Sports and Concert Complex of Heydar Aliyev in Baku hosted the final showdown of the tournament, which featured both teams from Azerbaijan. Baki Baku and Lokomotiv Baku came into stride and put up a grea show of volleyball.
Lokomotiv settled for final victory with golden set win, which ended at 15-12.
According to the set formula of the competition, the two finalists were supposed to play two matches in the final round. Lokomotiv defeated the resilient rival Baki Baku in the first match with 3-2 ratio last week. However, the Baki ladies took sweet revenge in Sunday match and posted 3-2 (27-25, 19-25, 25-21, 20-25, 13-15) victory over Lokomotiv.
It created the tie of scores and forced the two teams to play 15-point golden set. Lokomotiv was under obvious pressure after losing the crucial match but managed to overcome Baki Baku in the golden set. Lokomotiv posted 15-12 on board and emerged as the number 1 team of 2012 CEV Women’s Challenge Volleyball Cup.
