Chen Xue and Zhang Xi of China defeated hosts Juliana/Larissa of Brazil in the semi-final match of 2012 Brasilia Open on Thursday, April 19. The visiting pair secured first set by sending 21-17 on board, while the Brazilian duo leveled the game score at 1-1 after winning second set, 16-21.In the tie breaker third set, Xue/Zhang earned two-point lead and closed the final set at 17-15. The 2-1 record led the Chinese duo to match victory and they advanced to the women's final at the 2012 Brasilia Open.
“Probably our
greatest opponent right now is pressure and the will to win the gold medal in
London,” Zhang says. “We play as a team, and there are many great teams we have
to beat, but handling the pressure is what we are trying to get better at
doing. In 2008 [at the Beijing Olympic Games] there was very little pressure on
us because we were China No.2, and while we enjoy being China No.1 now, the pressure
is very intense, especially the pressure we put on ourselves."
