Day-1 of the 2012 CAVB Men’s Continental Cup finals in Mauritius – Beach Volleyball




On the opening day of the 2012 CAVB Men’s Continental Cup finals, duos from Congo and Angola performed amazingly well and clawed their way to the semifinals. The Olympic Qualifying tournament started off on Friday, April 13 and it will be concluded on Sunday, April 15. The sandy beaches of Flic en Flac in Mauritius are playing host to the African Olympic Qualifiers. 

In the first match of the day-1, the pairing of Ngoteni and Mandembo from Congo defeated Mauritius tandem of Louise/Sophie in a long match, which continued for solid 66 minutes. Nonetheless, the Congo pair managed to stamp 2-1 (22-20, 21-13, 15-11) victory over resilient rivals.

The second match between Congo and Mauritius was another long gruelling battle, which continued for almost two hours. Finally, the visiting Congo team clinched success and improved to 2-0 on the opening day of the tournament. 

 Likewise, the pair from Angola which consisted of Abreu and Silva defeated Okasha/Atta of Egypt in their first match 2-1 (12-21, 21-16, 15-10) and downed second Egyptian pairing of Metwally/Shahin in the next match. The set scores were 2-0 (21-18, 21-16).

Congo and Angola remained undefeated on the day-1 of 2012 CAVB Men’s Continental Tournament, while the rest of the pairs suffered one or two losses. With a splendid 2-0 run, Congo and Angola both qualified for the semis of the tournament on Saturday. 

Angola will go against top seeded South Africa in first semifinal on Saturday, while Congo Brazzaville will take on 2nd-seeded Nigeria in the second semis.
