The Norwegian Volleyball
Association has recently announced that there will be no CEV Satellite Beach
Volleyball Tournament in Drammen this year. The tournament was scheduled to
take place from August 15-19. The financial limitations have been cited as the main
reason for the cancellation of the event.
Reportedly, one of the major
sponsors of the event decided to withdraw, which forced the local promoter and
the Norwegian Volleyball Association to roll back the plan.
In this regards, the Competitions Director of the Norwegian
Volleyball Association Mr. David Cox stated, “It is not a responsible action to
organize the event with this projected deficit and as such the decision was
made by the promoter to cancel. We are very sorry that this must happen but
understand and support the promoter’s decision based on the economical prognosis.”
The first Satellite Tournament successfully completed its run in Aalsmeer during the month of January, 2012. The other four CEV Satellite Tournaments will be held in Baden, Umag, Lausanne, and Vaduz. Nevertheless, the Drammen event has been withdrawn from the schedule.
