German duos impress on first day of action in Hague – Volleyball news

On the opening day of the 2012 CEV Men’s Beach Volleyball European Championship Finals, German duos played a total of four matches and finished the day with 3-1 record.

Top-ranked duo of Brink-Reckermann, 14th-seeded Klemperer-Koreng, and No. 4 Erdmann-Matysik proved their endeavours and clinched success. However, the 15th-seeded paring of Kaczmarek and Walkenhorst dropped the decision after a tough competition. Hence, Germany three wins on day-1 of the tournament.

Beach of Scheveningen in Dutch city Hague provided the backdrop for the thrilling encounters.

Bulldog volleyball schedule for 2012 revealed – Volleyball news



The University of Georgia Volleyball Programme announced the 2012 schedule on Tuesday, May 29.

The Head coach of the University of Georgia women’s volleyball team, Lizzy Stemke, confirmed the news. Stemke was thrilled to announce the 2012 Bulldog volleyball schedule.

She stated, “We have an exciting preseason to begin the year with our home invitational which includes three southeast teams as well as a bit of an international event with the inclusion of a professional Serbian team exhibition match.”

She further added, “We will then have two more great tournaments lined up at Florida State and Michigan State before gearing up for the new SEC schedule. With the addition of Texas A&M and Missouri the SEC will have even more exciting volleyball every weekend!”

Laurie Gonzalez nominated for the AEC Women’s of the Year Award – Volleyball news



Senior libero of University at Albany, Laurie Gonzalez, has been nominated for the America East Conference (AEC) Women of the Year Award.

The native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, Gonzalez has been tabbed among the top-three finalists. In addition to Gonzalez, Viive Rebane of basketball and Lucy Van Dalen of track & field have also entered the grand finale. The America East Conference has shortlisted these players from a group of twelve America East institutional nominations, which were disclosed on May 18.

The prestigious award will go to only one of them on account of the performance throughout the collegiate career. The athletic excellence, academic achievements, leadership, and service to community are the main areas, which will help the jury to distinguish the top player of the year.

Italian setter Giulia Albini commits suicide




An astonishing but depressing news hit the block on Wednesday morning as sources confirmed that Italian setter Giulia Albini committed suicide in Turkey

She put an end to her life by jumping off the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge in Turkish city Istanbul. A failed relationship has been cited as the reason for her suicide. The 30-year old athlete had an affair with Lorenzo Micelli, who betrayed her due to his marriage. Giulia landed in Turkey this past Saturday and she met Micelli in a hotel in Istanbul. Supposedly, they ended the relationship, which pushed Giulia to take such a serious step that she committed suicide after a few hours. 

On the evening of her death, she rented a car before heading to the bridge. The incident took place around 1:30am but her body was found by a fisherman at 6:30am.


Women’s Continental Beach Volleyball Cup enters the crucial stage – Volleyball news



Following the successful completion of CAVB Continental Cup in Rwanda last week, the other volleyball federations are ready to kick off the action.

Mauritius claimed the Olympic berth via African Continental Cup, which rounded off on Sunday, May 27. Mauritius captured one out of the five spots through the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.

In the next run, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AV), NORCECA, Confederation South American de Volleyball (CSV), and Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV) are set to organise the finals of their respective Continental Beach Volleyball Cups in the month of June.

One team from each of the remaining four FIVB confederations will advance to the London 2012 Olympic Games through the Continental Cup finals, while the second and third-place finishers will have a second chance to earn Olympic slots through the FIVB Women’s Beach Volleyball World Cup in Italy.

Mexican duo claims men’s title at the Toluca Beach Volleyball Tournament – Volleyball news



Mexico’s Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros totally profited from the home advantage and settled for gold-medal victory at the 2012 Toluca Beach Volleyball Tournament.

The final showdown of the 6th NORCECA Beach Circuit Tournament took place this past Sunday.  Mexico University Campus hosted all the action and created an excellent sporty environment for the three-day competition.

In the final encounter, Mexicans were challenged by archrivals from Cuba.  The pairing of Sergio Gonzalez and Karell Piña crossed ways with Virgen/Ontiveros. Both teams had a great urge to secure the top slot of the tournament. Nonetheless, only one of them could go up and marched away with gold. Taking full advantage of the familiar conditions, Mexican Virgen/Ontiveros settled for 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) victory and claimed the gold-ware. Cubans put up a valiant effort and used many different tactics, but could not dismantle the power of hosts. In the end, they had to be contended with the second-place finish.

Third Grand Slam of the 2012 Season coming to Moscow – Beach Volleyball



The 2012 SWATCH FIVB World Tour is scheduled to make a stop in Russian capital Moscow for the third Grand Slam Beach Volleyball Tournament of the Season.

The double-gender Moscow Grand Slam will take place from June 6-12. The women’s competition will start on June 6, while the men will kick off the action with a delay of one day on June 7. Likewise, the women’s competition will be closed one-day before the men’s final round matches.

Meanwhile, the city of Moscow is getting ready to host fifth consecutive FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour event on its ground. The playing area will be set at the Poklonnaya Gora, which is the perfect venue for such activity.

This edition of the Moscow Grand has extra importance because of the upcoming London Olympic Games. The tournament will serve as a qualification phase for the Olympics. The event will award Olympic ranking points to the successful duos.

Mauritius becomes first country to clinch Olympic berth via Women’s Continental Cup – Volleyball news



Women’s duos from Mauritius worked out a wonderful feat at the finals of CAVB Women’s Beach Volleyball Continental Cup and advanced to the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The last leg of the African Continental Cup held in Rwanda at the weekend. The Palm Beach in Gusenyi provided the backdrop for the thrilling encounters. Duos from Mauritius proved their endeavours and used the golden set to reserve a spot in the Olympics.

Mauritius, the gold medallists of All Africa Games, defeated Kenya on the final day of the African Continental Cup. The two sides appeared in a total of four matches but situation remained undecided in the end. Following the deadlock of 2-2, a golden set was played in order to determine the winners. Mauritius captured the 15-point golden set and settled for 3-2 victory.

Recap of women’s final four of Toluca Beach Volleyball Tournament – Volleyball news



The Mexican city Toluca recently hosted the 6th NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit Tournament, which completed its run from May 25-27.

The Toluca Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament featured thrilling action of beach volleyball at the State of Mexico University Campus. Three-day competition attracted large number of fans and especially the turn-out was great on the final day of the campaign. The tournament came to an end on Sunday and featured the most influential ‘final four’ matches.

The final day of the Toluca Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament was opened with two semi-finals, the final showdown, and classification match for third position.

In the all-Mexican final match, Garcia/Candelas outclassed compatriots Revuelta/Virgen, 2-0 (21-15, 21-11). The former duo staged better action on the net and finished the match in just two sets. The dream came true for Revuelta and Virgen as they got their hands on the title trophy of the NORCECA Beach Circuit Tournament.

Murilo recovers from shoulder injury to rejoin the team – Volleyball News


One of the top players of Brazilian Men’s National Volleyball Team Murilo Endres, who was down with should injury, is set to rejoin the team after receiving medical treatment at the Brazilian Volleyball Development Centre in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro. 

He missed the first-week action at the 2012 FIVB World League, which took place in Toronto, Canada. Without the key player, Brazil failed to deal with the tough rivals and ended with 2-1 record. Teams from Poland and Canada defeated Brazil in the opening two matches. Nonetheless, Brazil managed to edge out Finland in the third match. 

“I realized Brazil had less match rhythm than the other teams. We wish to improve in the next week and keep getting better until the Olympics.”

“Since the team returned from Canada, I started to practice alongside the group waiting for Bernardo [Rezende’s, Brazil coach] decision,” Murilo revealed. “I am feeling good and I want to play.”

Murilo is back in the team now and he is supposed to showcase his skills in Katowice, Poland that is set to host the second-week matches from June 1-3. Let’s wait and see, if Brazil can cover the deficit of previous matches with the help of Murilo. 





Russian women aim for the Olympic title – Volleyball news



Women’s national volleyball team displayed an incredible action at the 2012 Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament, which recently rounded off in Japan.

Russia secured the top slot in the tournament and settled for the Olympic berth alongside Serbia, Korea, and hosts Japan. Ladies around Head Coach Sergey Ovchinnikov appeared in a total of seven matches and maintained their dominance from start to end. No other team in the competition could hinder their performance. The reigning world champions took on tough competitors but always finished on the winning side.

Now that the Russians have earned the right to play at the 2012 London Olympic Games, they have shifted all their attention on the upcoming challenge. The passionate Russian team-line is determined to keep the momentum going at the Olympic Games and to finish on the podium.
Russian players are enjoying a great rhythm and tone after claiming success at the Olympic Qualifiers. Furthermore, two key players of Russian team Tatiana Kosheleva and Lioubov Sokolova have also returned.  Both of them are believed to have solid knowledge of the game. With their addition in the team, Russia is likely to create more buzz on the centre court.

 

Joint Asia Continental and World Olympic Qualification Tournament starts Friday – Volleyball news



Following the stupendous success of Women’s World Olympic Qualifiers in Japan, the joint venture of AVC and FIVB Olympic Qualification Tournament is set to start on coming Friday, June 1.

Only two Olympic Tickets will be on stake, while eight teams from China, Iran, Australia, Japan, Korea, Puerto Rico, Serbia and Venezuela will come into stride. Czech Republic women’s team ready to rumble at the European League – Volleyball news



The 2012 CEV Women’s European Volleyball League is set to be kicked off on Friday, June 1 with a total of 12 teams.

Women’s national volleyball team from Czech Republic will also be on board to prove its supremacy on the centre court. Czech ladies will be on a special mission to improve their ranking this year. The ambitious Czech squad participated in the 2011 edition of European League but could not manage to dig a spot in the top-three.

However, the team is once again ready to embark on adventure. This time Czech Republic will have the competitive edge of playing at home in the first round of the tournament.

2012 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship Finals start tomorrow – Volleyball news


Following the successful completion of 2012 Baden Masters in Austria, which covered only women’s matches, the double gender competition of CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship Finals are ready to take centre stage on Wednesday, May 30.

The Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV) has selected Dutch City Hague host the thrilling volleyball competition. According to the plan, the courts will be set up at the beach of Scheveningen and venue will have the capacity to hold 3,000 spectators.

Pro beach volleyball season starts in United States – Florida Open




The 2012 Professional beach volleyball season kicked off with the opening of Florida Open in United States. The thrilling beach volleyball tournament completed its run from May 25-27 and attracted more than 10,000 enthusiasts at the weekend.

The pro circuit, dubbed Jose Cuervo Beach Volleyball Series, was just retooled after threatening to fold, and includes bigger purse, more stars and the South Florida stop.

The event was a multi-stop series across the United States, which showcased elite pro beach volleyball talent. The entry was free for both men’s and women’s competitions

Volleyball Canada selects 34 players for Women’s National A and B teams – Volleyball news



Volleyball Canada recently held a selection camp for Women’s National A and B teams, which successfully covered its run from May 21-25. A total of 49 athletes from different parts of the country attended the camp and went through designed process of Volleyball Canada Selection Committee.

The Investors Group Athletic Centre at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg facilitated the players and provided them with necessary equipment. At the end of the camp, only 34 athletes were shortlisted to be featured on the National A and B teams.

German wing-spiker Kozuch transferred to Italian team – Volleyball News



Born in Hamburg, Germany and of Polish descent, 25-year old Margareta Anna Kozuch has recently signed a deal with Italy’s Unendo Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO. 

The German top-gun will represent Italy at the 2013 CEV Women’s Champions League. Furthermore, the Italian club team has set many goals following the addition of experienced German wing-spiker. 

Kozuch has a wealth of experience on account of serving in different teams in Russia, Germany, Poland, and Italy. She already played for two Italian clubs a couple of years back. Therefore, she is returning to Italy again and it will be interesting to watch her showing her skills on the centre court.

The founding father of British Volleyball Dr. Don Anthony passes away - Obituary



The volleyball family is quite sad to learn about the recent death of Dr. Don Anthony of Great Britain, who was considered as the founding father of British Volleyball. 

Dr. Anthony bid farewell to life on Monday afternoon. Volleyball England President Richard Callicott commented: “This is desperately sad news; the world has lost a great man and wonderful inspiration to so many of us”.

Czech Republic claims third consecutive win at the European Champions League – Volleyball news



Men’s national volleyball team of Czech Republic continued with its winning ways in the Pool B of 2012 CEV Champions League and added third victory to its count this past Sunday.

Czech Republic was challenged by the Dutch counterparts on day-3 of the tournament. Team from the Netherlands failed to overcome the skill-full rivals and received 1-3 (25-17, 12-25, 19-25, 18-25) defeat in the match. Romanian City Piatra Neamt hosted all the action and created an excellent field of play.
Victory improved the winning record of Czech Republic to 3-0 and allowed the team to take up the top slot in standings of Pool B.

Grid of 12 women’s teams finalised for the 2012 London Olympic Games – Volleyball news



Following the successful completion of 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan, the grid of 12 teams finalised for the upcoming Summer Olympics in London.

Thailand beats Cuba but fails to secure the Olympic berth – Volleyball news



The trio of Onuma Sittirak, Wilavan Apinyapong,and Pleumjit Thinkaow led Thailand to a 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 18-25, 25-21) victory against Cuba on Sunday as two teams played their last match of 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament.

Tokyo Metropolitan Gym in Japan set up the field of play and around 1,450 spectators showed up. Thailand put up a valiant effort to make it to the 2012 London Olympics but failed to succeed on account of low set ratio.

Japan and Thailand finished the Olympic Qualifiers with overall 4-3 record but the hosts went ahead as they had more set wins to their tally. Nonetheless, Thailand kept its hopes alive until the final decision and displayed a stellar performance against Caribbean team in the last match.

Top-gun of Thailand Sittirak settled for the position of top-scorer with match-high 20 points. She was followed by Apinyapong and Thinkaow, who added 17 and 16 points respectively.
On Cuban side, Yoana Palacios registered 16 points whereas Yanelis Santos tallied 15 in the failing effort.

Japan makes to the Olympics even after defeat from Serbia in the last match – Volleyball news



Japan and Serbia clashed in the last match of 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament on Sunday.

The crucial match spanned over five tiring sets but in the end it turned out to be a win-win situation for both teams. Serbia defeated hosts Japan in front of 10,000 fans by sending 3-2 (18-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9) on board. Serbia finished the Olympic Qualifiers with an overall record of 5-2 and earned the tickets to London. Japan, on the other hand, also secured a trip to London for being the top team of Asia.

The AVC Olympic Qualifiers ran in association with the FIVB Olympic Qualification Tournament and Japan advanced to the Olympics as the Asian champion.

Speaking of the match, Erika Araki of Japan topped all the scorers with match-high 21 points. Jovana Brakocevic settled for the position of best scorer on Serbian side with team-high 18 points.

Korea defeats Peru to claim Olympic ticket – Volleyball news



In front of 4,300 volleyball enthusiasts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gym on Sunday, Korean ladies staged an eye-catching action and downed Peru to claim the Olympic berth.

In their last match of the 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament, Korea held off Peru for 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-21) victory. Peruvian team started off slow and gradually picked pace but dropped the decision in consecutive sets. Korea displayed a consistent performance and marched away with the influential victory.

Korean success was mainly credited to Hwang Youn-Joo, who chipped in match-high 14 points. Likewise, Jung Dae-Young ended with 11 points and contributed to the overall success of Korea in the match. Karla Oritz created a bit of spark for Peru with her 10 points.

Russian women's volleyball team earns the Olympic ticket – Volleyball news



 Nothing less was expected from World champions Russia in the last match of 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament that took place on Sunday, May 27.
Russian musketeers clean-swept the underdog team from Chinese Taipei in only three sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17).

Russian team rounded off the campaign with a perfect 7-0 record and earned a ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games. Tokyo Metropolitan Gym hosted the match and more than 2,000 spectators watched the performance.

Ekaterina Gamova served as the top weapon for Russia. The outside/opposite hitter charted match-high 18 points, which included 16 spikes and one serve ace. She was followed by Maria Perepelkina, who contributed 12 points in Russian victory.
For Chinese team, Teng Yen Min and Chen Wan Ting emerged as the top-scorers with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Chinese Taipei was no match for strong Russian team-line that opened the match with commanding serves. The early onslaught of Gamova and Borisenko allowed the team to take two-point lead at the first technical timeout (8-6).

Slovakia crushes Israel in straight sets – Volleyball news



Men’s national teams from Slovakia and Israel clashed in the first match of 2012 CEV Champions League on Thursday, while former bagged victory.

Slovak squad proved to be better in every aspect of the game and held off Israelis for 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 29-27) victory. The New Indoor Sports Hall in Katerini, Greece hosted the match, while less than two hundred people came to watch the performance.

Stefan Chrtiansky of Slovakia and Israel’s Milan Bencz had a tough competition in the match. Both players showcased amazing game tactics and ended with 13 points apiece.

However, Chrtiansky finished on the winning side and it proved to be a failing effort for Shafranovich. Slovakian Bencz and Stein of Israel had the similar situation as both of them contributed 11 points each to their respective teams.

Top-16 duos make it to the Main Draw of Baden Masters – Beach Volleyball



After the successful completion of Qualification Tournament on Thursday, the Baden Masters women’s beach volleyball tournament entered the Main Draw. 

The Main Draw stage is scheduled to be kicked off on Friday with top sixteen duos of the competition. The one-team elimination bracket will be ON during the Main Draw. In the first round of Main Draw top-8 teams will move forward, while the rest will be disqualified. At the end of second round of Main Draw top four teams of the competition will be uncovered and they will play the medal matches.

Final round of the tournament will feature two semi-finals, the final showdown, and a classification match for third position. The Baden Masters will be rounded on Saturday, May 26.



Spain overcomes hosts Greece in opening match of 2012 CEV Champions League – Volleyball news



Men’s national volleyball team of Spain defeated hosts Greece in the opening match of 2012 CEV Champions League on Thursday.

The visiting Spaniards edged out Greek squad in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19). The New Indoor Hall in Katerini provided the backdrop for the match, while 800 spectators showed up.

Spain displayed good action on the net and sent Greece to first loss in the campaign.
Gustavo Delgado and Iban Perez hugely contributed to Spain’s victory. They did a great job at offence and charted 14 points each. For the home team, Sergio Noda scored nine points.

2012 CEV Champions League starts today – Volleyball news



The cracking volleyball action of 2012 CEV Men’s Champions League is scheduled to get the green light on Thursday, May 24 in Greece.

The tournament will be opened with league round and Greek town Katerini will play host to the first-leg matches of Pool A. National teams from Slovakia, Spain, Israel, and hosts Greece will be on board to kick off the action. Denmark, which is also placed in Pool A, will join the competition in the second leg that will be hosted by Spain.

New Indoor Sports Hall in Katerini is all set to create an excellent field of play for the Champions League matches. League round will cover its length in five flights. Katerini is set to host the first leg from May 24-26. According to the set formula of the competition, two matches will be played on each day.

Spaniards cruise past to Main Draw of 2012 Prague Open – Volleyball news



With a stellar performance at the Qualification Tournament of 2012 Prague Open Men’s Beach Volleyball Tournament, Spanish duo of Francisco Alfredo Marco-Christian Garcia advanced to the 32-team Main Draw.

Spain played in the qualifying stage of the tournament with two teams but only one of them could survive the tough challenge. 7th-seeded Mesa-Lario also played under the flag of Spain but got eliminated in the second round. Nevertheless, Marcos-García staged a consistent performance and paved their way to the Main Draw without losing a single set.

Previously, Marcos and Garcia were teamed-up with different players and had reached the main draw individually. However, they formed the new partnership in 2011 and together as a team they continued with success.

Baden Masters start with Country Quota Playoffs - Beach Volleyball

The 2012 Baden Masters Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament took centre stage on Wednesday, May 23 in Austrian city Baden.

Opening day of the tournament featured the Country Quota Playoffs, where tandems from Austria, Spain, Czech Republic, and Germany showcased their skills and competed for Qualification berths. Two tandems from Canada move to Main Draw of 2012 Prague Open – Volleyball news

The 2012 SWATCH FIVB Prague Open men’s beach volleyball tournament entered the qualifying stage on Wednesday and promoted the successful tandems into the Main Draw, slated for Thursday.

Among the lucky winners of Main Draw berths were two pairs from Canada. Josh Binstock-Martin Reader and Christian Redmann-Ben Saxton performed brilliantly well and clawed their way to the next stage of the tournament.

The pairing of Binstock-Reader played a total three matches and remained undefeated. They dropped only one set during the Qualification Tournament. On the other hand, 4th-seeded Canadian pair of Saxton and Redmann also joined the Main Draw after finishing the Qualification Tournament with 2-0 record.

Korea sends hosts Japan to first loss in the tournament – Volleyball news



Korea proved to be a detractor for host Japan in the fourth match of 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament and sent the home squad to its first loss in the campaign.

Korea defeated Japan on Wednesday night, while the action took place at Tokyo Metropolitan Gym in front of 10,000 spectators. In the four-set game, Japan could only manage to claim one frame.

On the other hand, visiting team emerged successful in three flights and settled for victory. Japan now stands with an overall record of 3-1, whereas Korea improved to 2-2.

Serbia holds off Cuba for 3-0 victory – Volleyball news

Serbia and Cuba crossed ways in the fourth match of 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament on Wednesday.


Tokyo Metropolitan Gym in Japan provided the backdrop for the match.
Serbia proved to be too good for victory and edged out Caribbean counterparts in three sets. The final set scores of the match were 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-19). Cuban team played to its full potential but failed to overcome the European champions Serbia. More than 2,500 volleyball enthusiasts showed up at the competition hall to catch the highlights of the match.

Cuba could not win the match but it had the top-scorer of the match in the form of Rosanna Giel, who added 15 points. For Serbia, Stefana Veljkovic and Natasa Krsmanovic put up a good fight and claimed 11 points apiece.

Russian women claim fourth consecutive win at the 2012 FIVB World Olympic Qualification Tournament

The spectators witnessed an incredible show of volleyball at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gym in Japan as world champions Russia downed Peru in consecutive sets on Wednesday. Russia posted 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-9) on board to earn the winning status.

Russian ladies continued with their winning ways at the 2012 FIVB Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament and added fourth victory to their tally. Currently, Russia is topping the chart with a total of 12 points after winning four matches. Russia is the top contender in the competition to clinch an Olympic berth.

Ekaterina Gamova of Russia was the real highlight of the match as she chipped in 15 points and led her team to success. Her teammates Nataliya Goncharova and Maria Borisenko added 11 and 9 points, respectively.

Chinese Taipei loses to Thailand to stay without a win – Volleyball news

Women’s national volleyball team of Chinese Taipei dropped another chance to prove its endeavour in the 2012 FIVB World Olympic Qualification Tournament, which is currently underway in Japan.

Chinese Taipei played its fourth match against Thailand and received 0-3 (16-25, 18-25, 20-25) defeat. The Tokyo Metropolitan Gym hosted the match, while more than 1,000 spectators watched the performance.

Outside hitter (OH) Sittirak Onuma led Thailand with match-high 15 points. Thinkaow Pleumjit followed her up 13 points, while Wilavan Apinyapoing and Malika Kanthong registered 12 and 11 respectively. On the other hand, none of the C.T. players could go into double-figure score. Chen Wan Ting and Teng Yen Min were the top scorers with nine points apiece.

Four home duos make it to Qualification Tournament at 2012 Prague Open – Beach Volleyball

Out of seven duos from host country Czech Republic, only four advanced to the next stage of the 2012 Prague Open men’s beach volleyball tournament.

The tournament took centre stage on Tuesday and opening day featured the Country Quota Playoffs. Teams from three countries including host Czech Republic competed at the CQs. One of the home duos did not have to put up any effort as it earned the qualification after a forfeit. However, the rest of the teams got down to action and earned the berths.

The pairing of Hromadko and Weiss was the first to reach the qualifying round of Prague Open via forfeit.
