Russia tops the Pool A even after losing third match to Cuba – 2012 FIVB World League

Russia maintained its power in the first two matches of the 2012 FIVB World League in Pool A but dropped the third match to Cuba. 

The Caribbean team posted 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-20, 18-25, 15-10) victory over Russia on Sunday at the Hamamatsu Arena in Japan. Success improved the record of Cuba to 2-1, while loss moved Russia to similar 2-1 record. However, Russia came on top with slightly better set and points’ ratio in the three matches. At the end of first leg of 2012 FIVB World League Preliminaries, Russia topped the rankings in Pool A with 6 points. Cuba ended with 5 points and settled for second slot in the pool standings. 

In the next run, Pool A teams will travel to Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic. 

Russia claims another victory in a five set thriller – 2012 FIVB World League

Russian ‘army’ continued with success in the second match of on-going 2012 FIVB World League on Saturday. The defending champions downed the hosts Japan in a five-set tiring match and improved to 2-0 in Pool A. 

Russia sent 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-16, 19-25, 15-12) on board to earned the winning status. Equipped with stupendous support of some 2,000 fans, Japanese men fought bravely but failed to overcome the resilient rival. 

Top scorer of the match added a total of 24 points and he was none other than Pavel Moroz of Russia. Japan’s Yusuke Ishijima registered 17 points and emerged as top scorer on Japan’s side.

Serbia sends Cuba to first loss at the 2012 FIVB World League – Volleyball News

Men’s national volleyball team of Serbia proved to be a detractor for Cuba on the second day of the 2012 FIVB World League. 

Cuba, which stamped a splendid win over Japan in the first match, dropped the second match to Serbia on Saturday. The Serbs hammered the Caribbean counterparts with 3–1 (25–19, 20–25, 27–25, 27–25) victory. The match was hosted by Japanese Hamamatsu, while more than 1100 spectators watched the cracking action of volleyball. 

Serbia had lost its previous match to defending champion Russia on Friday but made a great comeback in the next match and held off Cuba for 3-1 victory. 

Nikola Kovacevic played an instrumental role to Serbia’s success. He totalled 16 points and led his team to victory. Besides him four other Serbian players went into double-figure score. On Cuba’s side, Wilfredo Leon added match-high 20 points but it proved to be a failing effort as his team dropped the decision.

Cuba downs hosts Japan in the opening affair of 2012 FIVB World League – Volleyball News

The hosts of the 2012 FVB World League Japan failed to profit from the home advantage and dropped opening match to Caribbean team from Cuba on Friday. The visiting squad posted 3-0 (25-22, 28-26, 25-20) win over Japan and made a great start to the campaign. 

Cuban skipper Leon Venero Wilfredo did justice to his role and contributed match-high 19 points in the match. His teammate Ramos Fernando Hernandez did equally well and notched up 15 points. On the other hand, Takahiro Yamamoto scored team-high 12 points for Japan.

Russia beats Serbia in opening match of 2012 FIVB World League – Volleyball News

Men’s national volleyball team of Russia made a perfect start to the 2012 FIVB World League by edging out Serbia in the first match of the tournament.

The match took place at Hamamatsu Arena in Hamamatsu, Japan on Friday, May 18. Russia displayed a better performance against Serbia and claimed 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 20-25, 15-9) victory. The thrilling encounter was witnessed by around 800 spectators.
