Fast-improving Hong Kong pulled off a convincing straight-sets (25-15, 29-27, 25-12) victory over India as the 10th Asian Girls’ U-17 Volleyball Championship continued in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand on Thursday.

Hong Kong, coached by Yip Po Lam, fielded a similar line-up to the one that beat Australia 3-1 in their 9th-13thplayoffs in Pool G earlier. They included Wong Sin Yu, Tam Hin Ching Rachel and Wong Sze Wing, while India were led by Kinjal Vala and Vala Chetana.

The side started strongly to win the first set without much effort 25-15, but struggled in the second set when India hit back through attacks from Vala Chetana and Kinjal Vala. However they held on to take the closely-contested set 29-27. The third set was a one-sided battle as Tam Hin Ching Rachel and Chang Ming Wei took turns penetrating the Indian defence clinching the set 25-12 and the match.

Chan Ming Wai topscored with 16 points for Hong Kong, while Kinjal Vala led India with 11 points.
