The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Berlin smart Grand Slam kicks off

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Berlin smart Grand Slam is just around the corner. The tournament is scheduled to start off on Tuesday, June 17 and the Beach Volleyball madness will be continued till 22nd June.

The world’s best beach volleyball teams have headed to Germany this week to showcase their mesmerizing skills on the centre court. The city centre, at the Washingtonplatz is ready to host the thrilling competition.

“We have the best beach volleyball players in the world coming here, in one of the most beautiful cities, and an amazing venue. This will be a world class event for both players and spectators.”

Teams from Germany will have a great edge over outsiders as they will get huge support from local fans. However, there will be world’s finest players and it will be great to see the matches.

 “Our sport becomes more and more popular and has the attention of a lot of people”, said Matisik, who won bronze at the World Championships with Jonathan Erdmann last year. “Playing beach volleyball in the heart of Berlin and near the government quarters will be a special experience for all of us athletes.”

Last year’s silver medallist Katrin Holtwick: “I wouldn’t say no to first place this time. Supported by our home crowd we will try to deliver a similar performance. Holtwick and her partner Ilka Semmler lost the final last year to Brazil’s Talita Antunes and Taiana Lima.

Germany holds top spot in Pool D after losing to Bulgaria – Volleyball news

Germany played its last match of the 2nd leg of the 2012 FIVB World League against Bulgaria on Sunday and dropped the decision 2-3 (19-25, 25-14, 25-19, 23-25, 14-16). However, the Germans still held the top position in Pool D with a total of 13 points and 4-2 record.

Bulgaria’s Tsvetan Sokolov was named the top scorer of the match as he charted 28 points. Leading Germany was Jochen Schops, who registered team-high 20 points.

German duo downs European rivals at 2012 Rome Grand Slam – Beach Volleyball

10th-seeded female duo of Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig from Germany opened the 2012 SWATCH FIVB Rome Grand Slam in an impressive way.

The duo played its first match of the Main Draw on Wednesday. Goller-Ludwig took on Liliana-Baquerizo from Spain and launched full authority on the European rivals. The German pair displayed wonderful action on the net and grabbed success in straight sets, 2-0 (21-15, 21-16).

Goller and Ludwig worked out a winning plan for the match and perfectly executed it. Flawless performance in the opening match shows their intent to grab more success in the coming matches.

Germany crushes underdog Chinese Taipei in straight sets – Volleyball news

German women’s national volleyball team took on Chinese Taipei on Sunday in the last match of opening leg of the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix and clinched success.

Germany overcame Chinese Taipei in three consecutive sets, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-15). Germany improved to 2-1 in the tournament, while Chinese Taipei remained dropped another chance to break the ice.

German trio of Maren Brinker, Margareta Kozuch, and Christiane Furst displayed incredible action on the net and dominated the opponents. They added 14, 12, and nine points, respectively. Chinese Taipei, on the other hand, was led by Teng Yen-Min who contributed 10 points in the loss.

Germany clinches success after losing one set to Finland – European Olympic Qualification Tournament



Finland gave a tough time to Germany in the second match of 2012 European Men’s Olympic Qualifiers on Wednesday but failed to stop the in-form German squad. Finnish team could only secure one frame in the four-set match, which was not enough to save them from loss. Germany pulled off success with three sets to one, 3-1 (31-29, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16).

Germany claimed first win of the tournament on the opening day when German studs defeated Slovakian counterparts. In the next run, the team carried the momentum and improved to 2-0 in Pool II by winning against Finland.

Germany stamps 3-0 win over Slovakia at the European Olympic Qualifiers – Volleyball News


Germany took a winning start at the 2012 European Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament, which got the green light on Tuesday. 
German hotshots finished their opening match in straight sets and sent opponents from Slovakia to first loss in the tournament. Germany improved to 1-0 in the competition by posting 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) win over Slovakia. 
Bulgarian City Sofia set up the field of play for the match, while all the action was staged at Arena Armeec competition hall.

Belarus defeats Lithuania in the 2nd round of 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship



Women’s Junior Volleyball Team of Belarus totally profited the home advantage and defeated Lithuania in the second round match on Wednesday, April 11. The SK Olimpiets in Mogilev set up the field of play for the match. Belarus posted 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-16) victory over neighbours.
Pool A of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball Championship is composed of teams from Germany, Latvia, host Belarus, Lithuania, France, and Poland.
