Canada advances to the final showdown of 2012 NORCECA Olympic Qualifiers


Men’s national volleyball team of Canada secured a spot in the final showdown of the 2012 NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament by defeating archrival Puerto Rico on Friday night. 
Canada sent 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 15-11) on board to grab semi-final victory. The match took place at Walter Pyramid in Long Beach California.

USA clinches semi-final berth by defeating Mexico in third match of NORCECA Olympic Qualifiers



Men’s national volleyball team of USA worked out a great performance in the first round of 2012 NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament and qualified for the semi-finals.

USA played its last match of the pool-play against Mexico and scored a splendid 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-14). Success in the third match moved USA to an overall record of 3-0. The match took place at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach California on Wednesday.

The hosts finished the first round without any loss and did not lose even a single set. The team is enjoying a top form and is tipped to win the Olympic ticket. 


Canada qualifies for the semi-finals of 2012 NORCECA Olympic Qualifiers – Volleyball News



Canadian men’s national volleyball team displayed an incredible action in the first round of the 2012 NORCECA Continental Olympic Qualifiers and clawed its ways to the semis.

Canada completed a winning streak of three matches and defeated Cuba in the last match of preliminary round, which took place at Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California on Wednesday. Canada posted 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-21) victory over Cuba and went straight into semi-finals.

According to the set formula of the competition, the top teams from both pools of the tournament will directly clinch the semi-final berths, while 2nd and 3rd place finished will meet in the quarter-finals. Two successful teams of the quarterfinals will advance to the semis.

The quarter-finals are scheduled to take place on Thursday, while the semis will be played on Friday.

Puerto Rico downs Dominican Republic, 3-0 – 2012 NORCEA Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament



In Pool B of the 2012 NORCECA Men’s Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament, Puerto Rico claimed first win on Wednesday. 

The Puerto Rican squad made a clean sweep over Dominican Republic and finished the Pool-Play with 1-2 record. The set scores of the match were 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-16). Dominican constantly remained in the blues and suffered the loss in third straight match. 
 
“For us it was a very important match,” Puerto Rico captain Victor Rivera said. “We came out stronger today, a little more confident. We know we can play better. I think the Dominican is in the same situation as we are. We’re restructuring and trying to get better day-by-day. We executed and we got the victory. I think it’s important to raise our level.”

“I am happy with the victory,” Puerto Rico Coach Carlos Cardona said. “We needed to win this match for the playoffs. It helps our hopes for the future. We had a good game. We are improving little by little. There was an opportunity for everybody to play without the pressure of winning. It was a good performance.”

Cuba holds off Dominican Republic for 3-0 victory - NORCECA Olympic Qualifiers

In Pool B of the 2012 NORCECA Men's Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament, Cuba met Dominican Republic on day-2. Cuba claimed 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-15) win over Dominican Republic and extended its winning streak to 2-0 in the competition. 

“We tried to play better today than yesterday,” Cuba Coach Orlando Samuels said. “We did not play well in the second set, but we came back in the third set and played better.”

“Tomorrow is a big game versus Puerto Rico,” Dominican Republic Coach Jacinto Campechano said. “I want to congratulate Cuba for the game. Cuba players are young, but are very experienced.”


US team beat Costa Rica on day-2 of NORCECA Olympic Qualifiers - Volleyball News

Hosts of the 2012 NORCECA Men's Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament USA posted 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-9) victory over Costa Rica on Tuesday.

The Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California hosted the match, while American studs totally dominated the scene. US team was very effective on serves and also delivered unstoppable kills. Costa Rica put up a bit of resistance in the first set but suffered many set backs in the second and third sets.

Victory moved USA to 2-0 in the tournament, while Costa Rica is yet to break the ice. The two teams will play their last matches of the preliminary round on Wednesday.

Schedule of 2012 NORCECA Men's Continental Olympic Qualifiers - Volleyball

The 2012 NORCECA Men's Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament got the green light on Monday, May 7 and it is scheduled to complete its run on Saturday, May 12.

A total of eight teams from United States, Cuba, Canada, Pureto Rico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago, and Mexico are on board to vie for the Olympic berth. The tournament is underway at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California.
