Israel takes four-set win over Denmark in the last match of league round – Volleyball News



Men’s national volleyball team of Israel concluded the opening round of the 2012 CEV European League with a tough 3-1 win over Denmark on Sunday.

After an incredibly close competition, Israel managed to overcome the resilient rival Denmark. The match ended with final score of 3:1 (23-25, 25-23, 27-25, and 28-26), while victory graced Israeli squad. Success in the last match allowed Israel to take third position in Pool A.

Denmark lost the match, but it had the top-scorer of the match in the form of Mads Hartmann DITLEVSEN, who contributed 24 points in the loss. On the other hand, Israeli Shon FAIGA and SHAFRANOVICH registered 20 and 16 points, respectively.

Serbia firmly holds the top slot in 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Women



Serbian ladies showcased an immaculate performance in the fourth match of 2012 CEV European League on Friday when they defeated the counterparts from Romania. 

Serbia posted 3-0 (25-18,, 25-22, 25-20) win over Romania and completed the winning streak of 4-0. Victory not only allowed Serbia to capture the top slot in Pool A but also enabled the team to enjoy No. 1 position in all three pools. The “Sportmax” hall in Budapest, Hungary hosted the match.

Turkey snaps two-match winning streak of Dutch team – Volleyball news

Taking full advantage of the familiar conditions, Turkish men’s national volleyball team pulled off success in a 2012 CEV European League match on Sunday.

The Burhan Felek competition hall in Istanbul hosted the match, which brought Netherlands in competition with Turkey. The home squad totally dominated the visiting team and ended with 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-21) victory. Turks did a fantastic job and snapped two-match winning streak of Netherlands. The Dutch team bagged victories against Romania and Austria in previous two matches. However, Turkey proved to be detractor for them in the third match and sent the team to first loss in the 2nd leg.

Clad in No. 15 shirt Emre BATUR played an instrumental role in Turkey’s success. He added match-high 15 points, while Coskun and Subasi followed him up with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Netherlands was supported by Van Garderen, who scored 10 points and emerged as only Dutch player with double scores.

Spain downs Hungary in the third match of 2012 Women’s European Volleyball League


Spanish ladies exhibited a great performance on day-3 of the 2012 CEV European League and pulled off success against Hungary. 

Spaniards posted 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 25-16) victory over Hungary and improved to 2-1 in the tournament. It was a comeback victory for Spain after losing to hosts Serbia in the last match on Saturday. 

However, the ladies around head coach Francisco Manuel Hervas are determined to carry the momentum going in the upcoming matches. 

Speaking of the match, Hervas said: “We started well but then we had too many ups and downs. Anyway, I am satisfied with this win and I think that in the next rounds we can play even better than we did here in Subotica.”
