Andrei
Voronkov has signed a two-year contract with the Russian Volleyball Federation
to head the men’s national volleyball team. He comes from the famous Russian
club Novosibirsk Lokomotiv. He will also continue to work with his club.
The national
volleyball squad was previously headed by Vladimir Alekno, who couldn’t
continue his services on account of health issues. However, Alekno did a great
job during his tenure and helped the team to achieve great many honors.
On the other
hand, Voronkov led his team of Lokomotiv to gold medal victory in the recent
European Champions League.
The President
of Russian Volleyball Federation (RVF) Stanislav Shevchenko shared his views
about the new coach in the following manner, "I think Andrei can grow to
become a great coach.”
