Dutch women claim home victory – 2012 CEV Women’s European Volleyball League



Women’s national volleyball from the Netherlands overcame Greek squad on Friday, while playing at home in front of the local supporters. 

The Dutch ladies totally dominated the scene and pulled off success by sending 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-16) on board. The Orange team took a winning start in the second leg of the tournament and bagged victory in the first encounter. Netherlands is currently ranked No. 2 in Pool C, whereas Czech Republic leads with the maximum points. 




Czech Republic defeats Israel in the second-leg opener of 2012 CEV Women’s European League



Women’s volleyball teams from Czech Republic and Israel crossed their ways in the opening match of second leg of the European League on Friday. 

Czech ladies, who were clad in shiny blue, proved to be better in every aspect of the game and settled for the 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-9) victory. Israeli team, on the other hand, failed to break the ice and constantly remained without any win in the tournament. The Dutch city ALMERE hosted the match, while all the action took place at Topsport Centre.

Japanese duo makes it to the Main Draw of a Grand Slam for the first time – Volleyball news

The 9th-seeded Urata and Take from Japan worked out a great performance in the qualifying round of the 2012 Moscow Grand Slam on Thursday and remained undefeated.

They finished the Qualification Tournament with 2-0 record and settled for the Grand Slam Main Draw berth for the first time in their careers. In the first fixture of the Qualification Tournament, they edged out Russian pair and did the same treatment to American duo in the second match. Japanese musketeers finished both their matches in straight sets. The Victory Park plaza in centre of Russian city Moscow set up the field of play for the thrilling encounters. Good defence was the key of their success.

Getting to know the adorable Volleyball Characters



Vabo Chan and Volley-Boo are two famous volleyball characters, which can be easily spotted during FIVB matches.

The spectators not only enjoy the cracking action of volleyball but also love these adorable characters, which put a lot of smiles on many faces. The volleyball enthusiasts, especially the young kids, scream and dance as the two mascots show up in the competition hall.

Fuji television Network Incorporation is believed to create the famous Vabo Chan some three decades ago. It was one of the first event characters ever designed in any sport. Vabo Chan was created with the sole purpose of cheering up the audience. It was first introduced at the 1977 FIVB Volleyball World Cup match in Japan. It was a new trend, which raised many eye brows and grabbed a lot of attention.
