Puerto Rico downs Honduras to reach the semis of NORCECA Junior Championship



Puerto Rico posted 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-11) victory over Honduras and booked a slot in the semi-final round of the NORCECA Men’s Junior Continental Championship. 

The match took place on Thursday, August 30. American city of Colorado Springs provided the backdrop for the amazing volleyball scrimmage. Puerto Rican U-21 team totally whitewashed the opponent and joined the influential stage of the tournament. 

Puerto Rican skipper Cristian Rivera played an instrumental role in his team’s success. He charted 11 points, which included four blocks. He was followed by Giovanni Llinas with 9 points.  On the other hand, Frank Alley helped Honduras with team-high 10 points. His teammate Jose Vasquez added six points in the loss.

Plavins/Bogatov claim gold at Open Beach Volleyball Cup in Russia – Beach Volleyball



The final tournament of the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) tour, the Open Beach Volleyball Cup of Russia, just completed its run and the pairing of Martins Plavins,/ Yuri Bogatov settled for gold-ware in men’s category.

The international duo of Martins Plavins (Latvia) and Yury Bogatov (Russia) came into contest with Vityaz", Anapa Sergei Prokopiev and Konstantin Semenov in the final showdown of the tournament.  Plavins/Bogatov finished the match in straight sets and marched away with gold medal victory.

“I'm glad to get another success in Russia,” said Plavins. “The last month has turned out to be very successful for me, it's great. Each medal is important, though, of course, the Olympic bronze is still the main thing in my career. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in my arrival here. Now we'll be set for the finals of the Russian championship, and we’ll try to get one more gold!”

Brazilian coach takes charge of the Peruvian Volleyball Federation – Volleyball News



After serving as a volleyball coach in various countries such as Greece, Brazil, Portugal, and Spain, Jose Francisco Dos Santos of Brazil has decided to join the Peruvian Volleyball Federation (PVF).

Peru has all eyes set on the next edition of Olympic Games, which is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Peruvian team will return to the Olympics after an absence of almost 16 years.  That’s why PVF has hired a new guide in the form of Dos Santos.

Dos Santos recently arrived in Lima, Peru and shared his thoughts in the following manner: "I am very happy to be back in Peru. Four years ago when I first came, the working conditions did not allow a scheduled strategy. Now, the reality is very different and we can build a project to develop Peruvian volleyball.

"We need to involve everyone in this new project, people with determination and conviction that development is possible. Our ambition must be large to achieve great things."
